King Gustaf VI reigned over the Kingdom of Sweden from 1950 until his death at the age of 90, in 1973. His name was quite long: Oskar Fredrik Wilhelm Olaf Gustaf Adolf.
King Gustaf VI Adolf was a devoted archaeologist, and was admitted to the British Academy for his work in botany in 1958. He participated in archaeological expeditions in China, and Greece, and founded the Swedish Institute in Rome.
